Master Plan
As part of the recent adopted Oregon Parks & Recreation Department master plan and reinvention of the Oregon State Fairgrounds, the Oregon State Fair Foundation is pleased to announce their leadership efforts in raising funds for the construction of a new Oregon Youth Village.
Historically there
had been dormitory facilities on the fairgrounds to house 4-H & FFA during the annual 11-day State Fair. Due to age, physical and infrastructure conditions of the dorms, they were
demolished in 2006.
Future Plans & Concepts
A citizen steering committee Blue Ribbon Panel was formed in the fall 2008 to set parameters for use of the facilities when complete. The initial concept is a phased construction over time of four lodge type facilities.
Rational for the four separate buildings is cost effective operation when complete and the ability to phase in the project from
a fund raising perspective.
The initial concepts call for multiple rest rooms and showers in each building and the use of Oregon materials and natural resources where possible in the construction. The center courtyard will have an Oregon landscape and gathering area.
The location of the new Youth Village is central on the fairgrounds property. This saves on initial power, water and sewer installation costs as adequate service is available at the nearby Pavilion. Providing security and creating a safe place for youth were also considered in the site selection. The location will also help in year round use of the multi-purpose buildings nearby.
Cash contributions, in-kind services, and donated building materials are needed for the project.
For cash contributions, naming rights have been established through the Oregon Parks Department. Individual and corporate donors at various levels of support will receive customized sponsorship and benefit packages.
Make your check payable to the Oregon State Fair Foundation with a note to the Oregon Youth Village or funds will go to the OSFF General Fund.
